"Wild Blue Yonder" sees the Flux and the Timeless Child openly referenced for the first time in Russell T Davies' new era of Doctor Who. As the Thirteenth Doctor only appeared in three more specials after Doctor Who : Flux, there was little time for her to reflect on the lasting impact of the Flux. While the Doctor was able to prevent the second and final Flux event, she could not stop the first, which laid waste too much of the universe. The Flux was to be unleashed in two separate Flux events. They therefore planned to wipe it out and begin again in another universe. Tecteun and the Division (the secretive organization the Doctor had served before their memories were wiped) believed the Doctor had compromised their ability to control the current universe. The Flux was a wave of anti-matter intended to destroy the universe. The second 60th anniversary special, "Wild Blue Yonder," revealed these stories won't be forgotten. The Thirteenth Doctor's final season titled Doctor Who: Flux also incurred some major ramifications for Doctor Who's universe. The shocking Timeless Child storyline saw a lost chapter unveiled in the Doctor's history, revealing they were not originally from Gallifrey and were in fact the foundation for Time Lords' ability to regenerate. The Thirteenth Doctor's era of Doctor Who as overseen by then showrunner Chris Chibnall proved controversial among fans. With the sci-fi series marching into an all-new era, with the combined backing of Disney and Bad Wolf, many fans have wondered how Russell T Davies might handle the events of recent seasons. Doctor Who's 2023 Christmas special will see Gatwa's Doctor meeting his new companion, Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday, setting the stage for what has officially been dubbed Season 1 of a new era of Doctor Who. These specials will culminate in the introduction of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, who is set to kick off the new era proper on Christmas Day. Russell T Davies - the man responsible for bringing Doctor Who back to television in 2005 after its 16-year hiatus - is back at the helm and is kicking things off with three specials that feature the return of David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. A bold new era of Doctor Who has begun with the sci-fi series' 60th anniversary specials.
